This post offers an opportunity within an Historic Environment team with a national reputation. Your role would be within the specialist archaeological team to supporting the service with data, advice and administration.

Based within Strategic Environmental Delivery the post offers an opportunity to gain experience and an understanding of historic environment records and support the specialist archaeological development control process.

A relevant degree or relevant professional qualification is required. Whilst knowledge of Historic Environment Records, Hampshires archaeology and the planning process would be useful, we are looking for someone who can make a positive contribution to the team with good communication, enthusiasm for learning new skills and commitment to delivering a friendly and efficient service.

Job purpose 

To assist in the development and delivery of specialist archaeological data and advice. To assist the Principal Archaeologist, Senior Archaeologist and the Historic Data Manager in maintaining and delivering a specialist archaeological data and advice service and responding to enquiries.

Essential qualifications 
Relevant degree or professional qualification

Essential knowledge, skills & experience 
A good working knowledge of the historic environment
Knowledge of British archaeology
Office IT skills. 
Knowledge of Historic
Environment Records, historic environment data and its uses
Knowledge of GIS Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a team
Desirable knowledge, skills & experience
Knowledge of the archaeology of Hampshire
Experience of using/working with Historic Environment Records
Experience of using GIS
Experience of working with access databases
Ability to meet the travel requirements of the job to visit sites around Hampshire
Basic knowledge of historic buildings 
Knowledge of national guidance and legislation for archaeology
Knowledge of historic environment data standards
